OKAY. This is going to get crazy, especially now that I've started looking at Fate/ stuff. Wow.

Mythological history/background:

Fionn mac Cumhaill (Wikipedia | Fate/ Wiki)

In Irish myth:

--He slew the "fire man" Áillen mac Midhna of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Áillen had the ability to play an instrument (timpán) to lull the people of the city of Tara to sleep before scorching everything with his fiery breath. Áillen could be described as a Dragon, and so Fionn is the hero of Irish legend who killed a Dragon.

--He also was asked to kill an old witchy woman hag who had a monster sealed in her thigh bone. Her body was struck by an arrow and went missing, but when it was found again, the thigh bone was broken. The sea monster Caoránach was released from the bone, causing trouble by eating all the cattle in Ireland. It was killed by a guy named Conan -- not sure which Conan, since there are two Conans in Fionn's Knights of Fianna -- by him going into the creature's mouth and attacking it from in there. Caoránach could also be considered a kind of Dragon.

In Fate/ myth:

--He apparently killed the War God Nuada. This may be important.

Nuada Airgetlám (Wikipedia)

He was the first king of the Tuatha Dé Danann, and is considered to be a god. However, "Nuada's name is cognate with that of Nodens, a British deity associated with the sea and healing." This also may be important, because Nodens is also the name of a Dragon.

2nd True Dragon ND/Nodens, the Cruel Mother God/Broodmother (Image [first Dragon in the third row])

The True Dragons are the top seven ultimate Dragons in existence. They are usually reserved for final boss battles. ND/Nodens is the secret final boss in the first 7th Dragon game and is fought again in the last game. She is the "mother" of Dragonkind, so she is likely the producer of Dragon eggs that hatch into new Dragons. It's never explained in-game, though. Her Dragon appearance is bird-like, with two wings and two legs. Tendrils come off of her wings, and two of them end in large red rose blooms. Her colors are various shades of pink and a little bit of red. She has a nature/life-giving theme, but her attacks also focus on charming her enemies. All Dragons expel Bloom flowers, but instead of the usual orange, hers are pink. Perhaps they have a charming effect as well?

ND also has a human form: a pink-haired woman named Allie Nodens. In game canon, she is the CEO of a video game company, Nodens Enterprises, which has developed a virtual reality fighting game called 7th Encount. Through this game, it is Allie's goal to find the strongest warriors (those at the top of the leaderboards) to fight Dragons for real. Her true intentions are for these Dragon Hunters to become so strong that they evolve into Dragons themselves through the power of entropy -- consuming power in order to sustain and grow. It's how Dragons survive, and how anything with enough power can morph into Dragons themselves. Dragons are the final form for all creatures. Maybe that's why she is the "Mother God" -- she leads others into becoming Dragons? But there are Dragon Eggs in the game, so she likely has both roles.

In this AU, as Fionn has killed the actual Irish god Nuada/Nodens, the Dragon Nodens is assuming the persona of the War God Nuada/Nodens in order to trick someone into helping her come out of the Outlands and into the human world. Once there, she will look for warriors with the strength and desire to become Dragons themselves. She has history in Ireland, having once been a woman witch with the ability to spawn Dragons from her bones. That was centuries ago, however...

The Flower Warriors, Konohanasakuhime and Konohanachiruhime

Nodens has two dedicated flower warriors in each appearance, who help her in her fight somehow. They are based off of minor Japanese goddesses that embody life through the imagery of sakura flowers. They're also both daughters of the Japanese earth god Ooyamatsumi, making them sisters. They also have human appearances as seen in 7th Dragon III.

If we want to incorporate these warriors, we could possibly use some Irish mythological women that have partnered with ND in order to partake in her promise of power, or we could just stick to the Japanese warriors. Possible Irish women:

Scathach herself? (Wikipedia | Fate/ Wiki)
--If she was the one to summon Nodens into the human world, it would make sense that she'd be one of the people the Dragon made a deal with.
--Perhaps Scathach's urging for Lancer to go to Daybreak was a cry for help? Or a way to get powerful warriors gathered in one place for easier consumption...
--In Fate/, it seems that she really wants Lancer to be the one to kill her because she is immortal. Maybe this will be how she can have that granted? But she may not be immortal in this AU.
--She's over the Land of Shadows, a land of the undead in Fate/ canon, which sounds like a part of the Outlands to me. I can think of several Daybreak characters that have ties to the undead, so maybe that could tie others in too.

Medb (Wikipedia | Fate/ Wiki)
--Is actually from Ulster, so she may have partnered with Nodens to protect herself from destruction?
--Has had contact with Cu Chulainn in history and in Fate/. He fought against her in history, and in Fate/ it looks like she wanted him romantically but Cu said no, so now she's all upset and wants revenge. Of course, it is yet undecided whether or not that connection is in the AU. It sounds kind of interesting/funny, though.
--She also does seem like the type who would be interested in power.

(The) Morrígan (Wikipedia)
--Either one or multiple war and fate goddesses in Irish mythology.
--Can have a crow form to match the bird motif.
--One of the Morrígan was also rejected by Cu Chulainn during the battle with Medb and wanted revenge, though I wonder if the Fate/ Medb's rejection is based off of this story.

Aífe (Wikipedia)
--Historically Scathach's rival, and in some histories, her sister.
--Also historically Cu's baby mother, but not his wife.

Or, heck, we can have a guy warrior too! We don't have to stick to canon 100%.

Diarmuid Ua Duibhne (Wikipedia | Fate/ Wiki)
--He looks a lot like Lancer Cu Chulainn, which, since Lancer doesn't know him, might unnerve him a bit.
--According to the Fate/ wiki, Lancer has an advantage over fighting Diarmuid in Ireland. It sounds like they'd be well-matched in a battle, though.

Fergus mac Róich (Wikipedia | Fate/ Wiki)
--Historically was Cu's foster father, one of the Knights of the Red Branch, and Medb's lover.
--If he isn't Lancer's foster father in AU, then him being a Knight of the Red Branch would give Lancer a connection to him.
--He'd have a couple of reasons to follow Medb into becoming a warrior for Nodens -- to escape the fiery end that the rest of the Knights fell victim to, and because he wants to help his lover.

One reason we might want to incorporate them is so Nodens + the two of them could possibly be identified as the Ellén Trechend, a huge triple-headed bird that destroyed Ireland in the past. Somehow. Maybe.

Shortly before present:

--The destruction of Ulster. Was it Scathach, or someone else? Either way, whoever is at fault wanted to call upon the strength of the War God Nuada. But as Nuada is somehow dead, Dragon Nodens has taken his identity and promises power to the one who opens a portal to the Outlands in order to summon her in. The summoner falls for it, and Dragons invade Ulster in order to consume. Of course, the Dragon makes a deal with them -- protection from death as a trade for loyalty, and with a promise of power thrown in. She won't mention that the loyalty will cause her new warrior to fight against all who oppose her, and that the power would only come if the new warrior is victorious enough to evolve into a Dragon.

This deal is also made with whichever other warrior is strongly fighting back the Dragon invasion that has begun once Nodens arrives in Ulster. Once those two warriors are secured, the Dragons consume and burn everything else down. Scathach is able to survive and has Lancer enrolled in Daybreak, then goes off to investigate herself. Of course, depending on if she's in league with Nodens or not, that may or may not be true.

Current happenings:

--Sometime in the last few months, Ulster (North Ireland) was reduced to ashes. Nothing is left, and no-one can be found. Lancer is confused and is sent to Daybreak by Scathach.

--Emille and Lancer look into Irish history. They find a record of a warrior, Fionn, fighting a fire-breathing Dragon. They also find a story of Fionn fighting a woman whose bone births another Dragon-like creature. Hmm.

What might happen in the future:

--The research gives Emille and Lancer confirmation that Dragons were historically once in Ulster. The "Dragon from a bone" story really bothers Emille. She might try to contact Murakumo to see if they know anything further.

--At some point, Emille receives word that Dragons are being spotted somewhere, possibly back in Ulster, and that they need to mobilize and defeat them. The Dragon that has appeared is an Imperial Dragon -- a level above the regular Dragons but below the True Dragons, a typical boss fight -- that has been causing havoc with civilians. This Dragon, code-named Sleepy Hollow, has been spraying pink confusion/charm scales from its butterfly wings and causing people to go crazy and eventually turn on each other. (These pink scales with their charm powers will be a clue to connect Sleepy Hollow with Nodens later.)

In game canon, Sleepy Hollow appears twice, in two games -- 2020 and 2020-II. In 2020-II, the heroes have to deploy machines that electronically nullify the effects of the Dragon's confusion scales before they can fight it. I can think of a few people in Daybreak who could help with constructing such a defense system if we choose to follow canon with this incident.

Here is a video of the 2020 Sleepy Hollow fight. The woman with blue hair at first is Emille's sister Aitelle, by the way. And the guy is her boyfriend Takehaya.

--If Emille ever travels to the burnt-out portion of Ulster, especially near a full moon, she will be in excruciating headache pain from the voices of Irish Dragon victims screaming very clearly at her. They will give clues as to what transpired there.

--There is going to be another plot going on sometime with other characters that will involve another True Dragon, Fomalhaut, in some capacity. I am mentioning this because the entire reason Sleepy Hollow is in 2020 and 2020-II is because Fomalhaut used his powers over death to resurrect Sleepy Hollow in the sequel. So if those plots intersect in some way, we may see Sleepy Hollow twice. His resurrected form is a little bit different, too, but not by much. It's mostly just a physical change.

That is what I have for now! This will always be a work in progress. Please comment and let me know what you think/want to change/etc.!
